Dedicated to America's Combat Wounded Vets

This Sunday, we want to celebrate America’s birthday with a report about a special program dedicated to America’s combat wounded vets.

In August this year, at the annual Leen’s Lodge (https://leenslodge.com) gathering in Maine, we are including some very special guests. They are veterans of American armed forces. The vets joining us are also trained scuba divers who have learned their skills in a program sponsored by Combat Wounded Veterans Challenge (https://combatwounded.org).

Here’s the mission statement of this very special philanthropic organization:

Our mission is to partner with various universities, medical professionals, and institutions to help gather research on PTSD, TBI, and orthotics & prosthetics so we can better understand the difficulties faced by wounded or injured veterans daily.

In addition, the challenges we organize instill confidence and pride in the veterans that participate, better enabling them to realize their full potential and continue to contribute to helping others.

The eight vets who are attending next month will be working in shifts with local folks to help remove the milfoil infestations in the lakes in the St. Croix River watershed. The group will be joined by the State of Maine’s expert with expertise in and responsibility for this environmental area; she is on the staff of the Governor’s office in Maine. Also joining us will be Dr. Michael Crosby of Mote Marine Laboratory headquartered in Sarasota, FL. Mike’s organization is already involved in a program where trained divers from the veterans’ amputee corps help Mote in seeding coral reefs. The Down East Lakes Land Trust (https://downeastlakes.org) is also involved. Here’s information about the milfoil project: https://downeastlakes.org/who-we-are/big-lake-milfoil-coalition/.

Every year, our group has found a way to support some special philanthropic endeavor. This summer’s Camp Kotok special guest project is unique in the history of our Maine gathering. The 2023 effort is a collaborative one involving the Global Interdependence Center (https://www.interdependence.org) and the Combat Wounded Veterans Challenge. Note that CWVC’s president is Major General David “Scott” Gray (Air Force, ret.), who attended the Maine gathering last year as my special guest and with whom I have both a personal friendship and a working involvement in academic activity and in GIC programming. Scott makes it a point to say that CWVC is an all-volunteer organization. He notes that the only two expenses are the annual audit and the cost of insurance. He also notes that the goal is that monies raised for this 501(c)(3) are applied directly to the programs.

On the deck at Leen's Lodge in Maine are CWVC president, Major General David “Scott” Gray (Air Force, ret.), Francis Suarez (Mayor of Miami), Chris Corbin (Combat Wounded Veteran representing the Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge), and Kristi Moore (Spouse to Chris and Combat Wounded Veteran Challenge Evangelist).

We wish all readers, friends, clients, consultants, and anyone to whom this email is forwarded a wonderful and safe celebration of America’s birthday. For us, we will use this time to reflect about the vets who defend us and particularly those who have lost a limb, overcome great difficulty, and are now directly making a difference in our world. We salute them. And we honor them. And we support this effort as a regular contributor to this charity.

CWVC is not widely known. Fundraising is mostly by word of mouth and from those who believe that rehabilitation of a veteran who is an amputee ascends to the highest form of support and philanthropy. We encourage anyone who is interested to go to the website www.combatwounded.org and assist by contributing any amount they deem appropriate.

Happy birthday to our America. And good wishes to those who protect us and our great country.
