Dear Clients & Friends,

Thank you for joining us. Below is Cumberland Advisors’ Friday, June 30, 2023 Week in Review, an end-of-week update on market conditions, equities & bonds with Matt C. McAleer, Executive Vice President & Director of Equity Strategies, and John R. Mousseau, President, CEO, and Director of Fixed Income.

Cumberland Advisors' Week in Review (June 26 - June 30, 2023)

Matt McAleer & Equities
- NASDAQ is all you can talk about; finished the first half of 2023 above 30%
- Pullback off extreme overbought momentum was exceptionally shallow
- Number of small speculative call buyers may be signaling some overheating
- Added to small-cap and equal weighted S&P 500 positions in U.S. Equity ETF

John Mousseau & Fixed Income
- Movement up in U.S. Treasury yields off stronger economic numbers
- Muni yields almost unchanged due to reduced calendar
- Expectations built into negative yield curve return to pre-March levels
- Intermediate and longer Munis still compelling on a taxable-equivalent basis

4th of July

Cumberland Advisors USA Flags - 4th of July 2023

As we head toward the July 4th holiday, let’s celebrate our country’s independence and recognize what a terrific country we live in. In the space of one month, our nation celebrates its birthday and the end of slavery in two holidays that both celebrate freedom, a luxury not available everywhere else in the world.

With all the distractions of everyday life, and with all the challenges that the country faces, it’s easy to take the freedoms and liberties we have for granted.  We must not do that. Our forefathers and subsequent generations have fought to ensure those freedoms and liberties.

Please keep an eye out for our Sunday missive paying tribute to combat wounded veterans and have a safe and fun holiday weekend and 4th.

University of Colorado’s hurricane predictions, long a staple of seasonal forecasts, came out a week later than Bunting’s, with calling for 13 storms, six hurricanes and two majors. Of late, the National Weather Service’s forecast for the 2023 season predicts 12-17 named storms, one to four of them could be major hurricanes.

The season is off to a fast start. A short-lived tropical storm formed in the Gulf of Mexico in early June, and Bret, the season’s first storm in the Atlantic, spun together in a region that typically doesn’t produce cyclones until much late in the season.
