Boosters

Readers have asked us about boosters.

We know that the mRNA COVID vaccine boosters help reduce the severity of disease caused by Omicron and Delta and other variants, known or unknown. The boosters don’t keep us from infection, but they do keep most people who have received them out of the hospital and out of the morgue.

And we know that the nation is lagging in getting those critical boosters. For reference, here’s a list by state from Becker’s Hospital Review of the percentage of people who had gotten their boosters as of December 19: “States ranked by booster rates,” https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/pharmacy/states-ranked-by-booster-rates.html. We have also copied and pasted the list into this email for your convenience.

For investors, firms that have more resiliency, which includes the overall health of their workforce, are better equipped to face future challenges. McKinsey writes, "The pandemic illustrated how expensive it is to let a health problem fester," https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/risk-and-resilience/our-insights/covid-19-implications-for-business.

Please be safe.
