Bill Dudley, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, has agreed to keynote the March 30, 2017, Financial Literacy Day, to be held at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. Visit usfsm.edu/event/financial-literacy-day/ to register and to view the schedule of events. The agenda includes a full day of discussions that will cover financial education and literacy, investments, economic outlooks, fiduciary responsibilities, and a special section on financial issues for women. This event is open to the public. All interested parties are invited.
Cumberland Advisors is pleased to announce a philanthropic gift to the six universities and colleges in the greater Sarasota area. This gift comprises a 12-terminal Bloomberg financial laboratory that will be housed at the University of South Florida’s College of Business. All six Sarasota-Manatee education facilities will be able to use these terminals. The dedication of the laboratory will be one of the March 30th activities.
One of four panel discussions at the March 30th event will concern the global economic outlook. Financial issues start with economic issues. Investment decisions are based upon and structured around economic forecasts. This session is titled “Global Economic Outlook: Where do we go from here?”
A stellar list of speakers will have traveled thousands of miles to participate in this panel. The list follows.
Michael Drury, Chief Economist at McVean Trading & Investments, LLC in Memphis, Tennessee, is also the Worldwide Chairman of the Global Interdependence Center. He is a frequent traveler to China and other countries in Asia. He has expertise in Asian economies, specifically China – the second largest economy in the world and a topic of serious current interest, given the Trump Administration’s positions on trade and negotiations.
Megan Greene, Managing Director and Chief Economist at Manulife Asset Management, is an expert on Europe, specifically the UK and Brexit. She will discuss the outlook for the British economy in Europe and the post-Brexit evolution, and offer her views on critical developments in the Eurozone.
Ramiro Lopez Larroy, Partner & Director at Integras Capital, headquartered in Buenos Aires, has a broad range of expertise that includes South America. He will comment on this large region which neighbors the US and encompasses 500 million people. Ramiro will also discuss the outlook for the economies in the region, specifically Argentina.
Kozo Koide is traveling to Sarasota from Tokyo. He is the Chief Economist of the largest asset manager in Asia, a global personality, and a personal colleague on the board of the Global Interdependence Center, as well as a member of the National Business Economic Issues Council (NBEIC).
The moderator of this global economic outlook panel is Mike McKee, Economics Editor for Bloomberg Television and Global Bloomberg Radio. Mike may add comments about the benefits of having the Bloomberg terminals and how they will assist in teaching economics, preparing economic forecasts and outlooks, data compilation, and measurements of various aspects of economies worldwide. In fact, all of our speakers can be expected to employ references that incorporate the use of Bloomberg data, and they may contribute additional remarks on how the terminals can be integrated into the activities of the six education facilities in the Sarasota-Manatee multiversity consortium.
Women, men, trustees, fiduciaries, investment committee members, and pension beneficiaries – all are welcome to participate in Financial Literacy Day, along with the academics representing the six institutions and their boards, trustees, and committees. The intent of this event and the development of the 12-terminal Bloomberg laboratory at USF is to open up financial education and literacy to the community.
Cumberland Advisors is now going into its seventh year in Sarasota. We are an independent, employee-owned, fee-for-service-only investment advisory firm. Our success has placed us in a position where we have clients in most of the 50 states and several foreign countries. We decided this gift was a way in which we could give back part of our success to the community that we now call home. We are 40 people, including 17 investment professionals, headquartered in Sarasota. We believe our firm represents the largest and deepest assemblage of professional investment talent and advisory experience in the entire region.
April is Financial Literacy Month, nationally and in the State of Florida. On March 30th we will help kick off this focus on financial education. Our aim is to elevate financial education and financial literacy to a level where there will be fewer victims, better results for the community, more money to be distributed for philanthropic activities, and a better understanding of the economics of our nation and the world.
Finally, we have invited Michael Chriszt, Vice President & Public Affairs Officer, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, to visit us during the conference and describe the Atlanta Fed’s activities in financial education. The goal is to introduce the Atlanta Fed education system to the boards, trustees, and academics of the six colleges in the Sarasota area.
