The Dow briefly rebounded and recouped all of its losses and was up 367 points. At 10:45 a.m., the Dow was unchanged for the day.

The market is trying to find a bottom after its recent freefall, says David Kotok, chief investment officer at Cumberland Advisors, a money management firm in Sarasota, Fla.

"(The bounce) didn’t last long," Kotok said. "Whipsaw markets must run their full course to completion."
